it isn't the constitution

it isn't the politicians

it isn't the army

it isn't the navy

it isn't the air force

it isn't the reserves

it isn't the national guard

it isn't the Hollywood crowd

what makes America great is the people.

this is what i mean. On 9/11 when those towers came down NYC lost the chief fireman.
there were thousands of people down there helping out. and i bet you non of them were asking anyone what the skin color was, or where they were from. i would also bet that there were a few bigots down there helping also at that point not caring about race, color or national origin.

almost flame wars, are the best kind to have

and yes the ability for mankind to over come personal predjudice and rally together in the face of tradgedy is one of the fundimental wonders of humankind...when this power of compassion ceases to exhist, our doom will be at hand....

the real question is why does it take extreme tradgedy for makind to rally together? wouldnt it be better for all if that level of compassion was a daily occurance? rather than used only for extreme circumstances?

NO because then everyone would be spending all their time trying to keep the supports of the day up, without building new, bigger and better ones to handle the growing needs of tomorrow. History has appeared to show that this can only happen effectively when individuals can tend to themselves during normal times. These types of situations are like a plug being sucked into a drain, and everyone must band together to prevent everything from washing down. Once the support is back in place to hold the infrastructure where it is, the building continues.

please don't take my statement as saying that the type of response seen on 9/11 or other major tragedies is inappropriate. I certainly do not feel that way in the slightest.

Hehe Canada doesn't care... I'd know, I'm Canadian. Well, not with the boundaries thing anyways.. Same with Cuba...

when you share no borders with any others.

Canada will be pissed....

And no, Canada isn't a military country, it's a smoke-up-greens country.

The last bloke in Europe to go around shouting how great his country was and how it was a civilisation above all others shot himself in the head in 1945.

Spare a thought for the millions of all nations, colours, religions etc who sacrificed themselves in the downfall of this individual so we can think and speak as free men (and women).

Oh, and there is a subtle difference between being a nationalist and nationalism

Thanks Zubaz I didn't know that.
OK noob to forums question : So is this what happens if someone posts their view or opinion on a forum? They get mocked, patronized or flamed? It's an honest question and not meant to be inflammatory as I have only got into forums (well this one alone actually)in the last year so I'm not that savvy with what's done and not done.
I'm asking you Zubaz as you seem like a decent sort of bloke.

re #68 / #70 Yes, it was me not Zubaz (poor geezer gets blamed for all sorts of stuff   )

In answer to your (n00b) question about forums. Yes, you are entitled to express any opinion you wish. However, if you post an opinion which may be controversial for some people, you must be prepared for the response. In an open forum people don't always respond in a way you would like (though ideally they should respond in a civil manner without any kind of abuse) and you must prepare for that. As always the best response anyone can give is an informed and assured one
